It was warm and humid on a Tuesday morning. We stepped into our right-hand drive SUV and drove down the freeway for 40 minutes to the Neo Park Zoo.

We picked up our tickets, adorned with a red panda—an animal we sadly missed seeing at the zoo. Nearby, there was a bustling train station, a favorite spot for visitors. Next to it stood a small games and toys shop, which didn’t seem to attract much attention. The kids eagerly tried their luck on the UFO catcher machine, the kind where you guide a mechanical claw over your desired prize, drop it down, and hope it grabs hold and delivers it to the prize chute. Usually, my attempts end in disappointment, with nothing to show for it 95% of the time. But this time was different. We walked away with a squeezable capybara.
